Day 2 – Ystad – Kåseberga (5hrs, 21km, +150m/-150m)
The first day you leave Ystad via the harbour to continue along an esplanade through Sandskogen. You will cross Nybroån – a creek famous for its sea-trout fishing. As you reach Kabusa, you leave the sea and go around the military area. Soon enough, at Hammars Backar, you will get back to the shore line. The landscape is open and as you approach Hammars backar the hills will get higher and higher. In this area the sky will be filled with kites, sea gulls and wind gliders if the wind is right. You will continue along the shore and close to Kåseberga the trail will be passing below Ale Stenar (the stones of Ale). Even if your legs hurt after a long days walk, the extra diversion to the old, beautifully situated village of Kåseberga, is well worth while. The last stretch you will walk inland until you get to your accommodation. Dinner is prebooked at the accommodation, payable at sight.
Day 3 – Kåseberga - Skillinge (5hrs, 21km, +150m/-150m)
After breakfast you return to the shore at Kåseberga. If you didn´t visit Ale Stenar yesterday, you once again have the opportunity to do so. This is the largest preserved stone ship of Sweden and well worth a visit. Leaving Kåseberga you continue your walk along the coast following Österlenleden. The trail is easy and you walk along the coast on soft ground and small paths until you reach the beach in Löderup. Maybe you feel like having a dip in the sea? This is where you leave the ocean behind to follow the trail into the nature reserve of Hagestad. The reserve is dominated by planted pine that grows together with natural oak, beech and mixed deciduous forest. The vegetation is dominated by lilies that sometimes cover the ground. After walking through the reserve for about an hour you will return to the coast at Sandhammaren. This consists of dune landscape and vast beaches. From here the coast bends northeast. Your walk continues along kilometers of sandy beaches and you pass Mälarhusen, Sandby strand and Borrby strand. Towards the afternoon you will reach the old fishing village Skillinge. After leaving Skillinge you once more leave the trail to walk inland for about 1 kilometer. This is where you will find your accommodation. You will spend the night at an idyllic old farmhouse (Skånegård). Dinner is prebooked at the accommodation, payable at sight
Day 4 – Skillinge - Simrishamn (3hrs, 12km, +250m/-260m)
Today you will follow small paths or country roads. You will be passing shore meadows, exciting rocks and picturesque fishing villages on your way. When you reach the small fishing village Gislövshammar, the sandy beaches will be replaced by shale and sandstone. Today´s walk is not a very long one so you might want to take a break and go for a swim or just stay and relax for a while. Enjoy the fresh air accompanied by the marvelous views. The seafront between Brantevik and Simrishamn mainly consists of bushy pastureland. The old sea-banks make the beautiful landscape a bit hilly. As you can see, it has a very rich vegetation. In the area there are several rock carvings as well as bare sandstone rocks. Finally, you reach the famous fishing town called Simrishamn. We would suggest that you end the day by having dinner at one of the nice restaurants. After that you might want to take a last walk through the oldest part of the town where you can enjoy the cobbled streets with its ancient houses or visit the harbor.
Day 5 – Simrishamn – Kivik (5,30hrs, 22km, +450m/-240m)
Today´s walk will be varied and includes walking over sandy beaches as well as walking over bouldered shore meadows. As you continue through the undulated landscape you will be passing fishing stations and beech forests. You will be walking on beaches, small paths, sand roads and at some parts along tarmac roads. The stone sand will change into a unique sandy beach at Tobisvik. Here you will find a special kind of homogenous sand that has housed some worldfamous crabs living in the damp holes underneath the sand. At Baskemölla you will return to the lovely shore meadows and when you get further north at Tjörnedala you will pass some meadows that is very rich in species. These meadows with orchids were once praised by Carl von Linné. At Knäbäckshusen you will be able to walk through the old village and get a glimpse of the fishing hut that has been rebuilt into a small chapel. The walk from Knäbäcken to Stenshuvud will be delightful. You will walk along an esplanade on the border to the bright blue sea and with trees spreading out its branches over the beach. Since 1986 Stenshuvud has been a national park. In the heart of this park you will find a 97 meters high mountain that you have been able to see all along the way since you left Simrishamn. When you have left the northernmost part of the national park and rounded the cape you will walk along a small tarmac road until you reach Kivik. On your way, you will pass apple cultivations, cider factories and old ancient monuments.
Day 6 – Kivik - Brösarp (3,30hrs, 12km, +290m/-260m)
Since the last day´s walk is quite easy you can sleep a bit longer if you want to. Even if you do you will have time to make some extra stops to enjoy the wonderful nature. If you want to, you can take the detour to Havängsdösen where you can have a cup of coffee at Skepparpsgården or pay a visit to the outdoor museum called ”Lindgrens länga”. You start your walk by walking along the small road that leads from Kivik to the small and beautiful fishing village Vitemölla. The trail continues after the village and continues alongside with the sea. You will get a lovely walk through the nature reserve Vitemölla strandbackar, pass the stream mouth of Verkaån and arrive in Haväng. At Haväng the nature looks almost like moorland with unusual vegetation due to the sandy steppe land. The area is rich in limestone. This is the perfect environment for sand pinks, lillies and lots of other flowers and on early summer nights there is a heavenly scent. At Haväng the trail turns away from the sea and continues westbound. You will follow the magnificent winding valley of Verkeån and walk into the undulating hilly landscape of Brösarp. At the accommodation in Brösarp there is a spa where you could get a massage or relax in the jacuzzi.
Day 7 Brösarp – Alunbruket (4hrs, 14km, +6200m/-550m)
The last day, the trail will take you via the northern hills of Brösarp into the beech forests of Skåne. You will be walking close to the stream Verkaån, with its unique water system that meanders through nature. The natural rapids makes the water clean and crystal clear. During the months of spring and summer it almost feels as in the tropics due to the vegetation and the light straining through the foliation. The trail will pass the highest waterfall of Skåne, Hallamölla. At the end of the walk you will be passing the alum mine of Andrarum. This mine was once one of Swedens biggest industries. This night´s accommodation will be at a small Bead & Breakfast close to the mine.
