It is a high-altitude hike that delivers a full spectrum of Tenerife's landscapes: grand volcanic vistas, deep pine forests, and unique erosional geology. A short drive takes you to the Las Cañadas del Teide National Park. The walking trail starts near the Parador and the majestic Roques de García, ascending the Montaña de Guajara (2717m). This promontory offers an astonishing visual spectacle, closing off Las Cañadas to the south. The path then descends into splendid pine forests until it reaches the famous Lunar Landscape (Paisaje Lunar). This supernatural enclave features highly stylized, conical towers of volcanic sandstone, carved by erosion, giving the area the feel of a modernist cathedral or an otherworldly setting. The final stretch of the trail heads directly to Vilaflor, where your accommodation is located.

Day 7: Vilaflor - Pico del Teide - Vilaflor (11km, 5-6hrs, +1370m/-150m or climb to Pico Viejo: 14km, 5-6hrs, +1030m/-970m or shorter options)
You certainly can't have a Tenerife hiking tour without summiting the king of the Canaries (and Spain). This is a route defined by its extreme altitude and steep terrain, demanding excellent physical fitness. It is undoubtedly the most iconic - and highest - climb of your entire tour. The hiking trail begins at Montaña Blanca within the Las Cañadas caldera, starting on a track with moderate difficulty. The path soon turns into a relentless, zigzagging ascent up the foothills of Teide. Near La Rambleta (3,500m), you pass the Altavista hut and the cable car platform. The final climb is to the very top, the Pitón del Teide (3,718m).
N.B.: This final climb requires a special permit, which you need to pre-book well ahead of time on the website of Reservas Parques Nacionales. It is free of charge and it does not include the lift ride. The total distance this permit covers is the stage between the upper lift station (La Rambletta, 3555m) and the rim of the crater itself (appr.650m, climb: 163m; 3717.98m a.s.l.). This climb is not recommended for individuals with pulmonary, respiratory or cardiac problems or those with high blood pressure! The descent can be easily made via the cable car.
*
There is an option to take the cable car up to La Rambleta and use the same for the journey back down, thus avoiding the strenuous hike up. In this case please consider the chances for dizziness once you reach the top since the altitude change is considerable and done within a very short time.
Plan B: There is a fantastic and more manageable plan if the access to El Teide is closed due to weather conditions, or simply in case you are after an easier adventure. This option still provides extraordinary views and a close-up look at a massive, historical crater, serving as an excellent route for anyone skipping the main El Teide summit. The hiking route begins at the Mirador de las Narices del Teide (Teide's "Noses") next to the TF-38 road. Following Path No. 9, you head towards Pico Viejo (Old Peak). This ancient volcanic cone had its last eruption in 1798. After enjoying the view from the Pico Viejo summit, Path No. 23 guides you on a long descent down to the enchanting Los Roques de García (emblematic rock formations for Tenerife), bringing you back to the heart of the Las Cañadas caldera.

Tips
Daily arrivals year-round. Hiking on Tenerife is excellent year-round, offering diverse and spectacular trails from coastal walks to challenging volcanic ascents. The island's dramatic landscapes include volcanic mountains, lush laurel forests, and rugged coastal cliffs. However, weather varies significantly by altitude and season; spring and autumn offer the most pleasant temperatures, while summer can be very hot and winter can bring snow and ice to higher elevations, particularly in Teide National Park. Be aware of the microclimates. It can be hot and sunny at the coast while simultaneously being cold and snowy on Mount Teide.
