Aletsch Glacier panoramic trail

€1270 per person
Below only the classic tour version is given as itinerary and price. Get in touch with us to check for shorter 6-day option. Also we offer an option with included guided tour on the Aletsch glacier (incl. all necessary equipment for that; contact us for details if interested).

A lovely combination of the top two hiking routes in Switzerland. This independent walking tour will take you through the infamous railway embankment of the Lötschberg train line and the iconic suspension bridges of Switzerland. Astonishing views of streams and viaducts will be your companion on your way to the Great Aletsch Glacier. An immense landscape of rock and ice will create a supernatural world for you to sink in. You will feel like a fairytale character walking past glaciers and snowy peaks towards the typical mountain village Bellwald, the final stop on your tour.

We offer a shorter version too (6D/5N), but also an option, which includes a guided tour on the Aletsch glacier itself (contact us for details).

Day 1. Arrival to Gampel-Steg
Individual arrival at the starting point of the hiking tour. *Easiest arrival through Geneva, Bern, and even Zurich and Milan airport (frequent train connections).
2
Day 2. Gampel-Steg – Ausserberg - Brig (12km, 4hrs, +680m/-300m + shorter option!)
Today your independent hiking route follows the classic trail along the Lötschberg Railway tracks to the impressive Bietschtal bridge. This is a scenic walk on the high-level BLS railway Südrampe (south ramp) just a step away from the historic water channels (or "suonen"). The route reveals fantastic views over Brägji and Riedgarten. The day ends with a train ride from Ausserberg to Brig.
3
Day 3. Brig - Ausserberg – Naters – Belalp (15-21km, 5-7hrs, +560-1265m/-870-945m + shorter option!)
Take the train from Brig back to Ausserberg. The "suonen" (historic irrigation channels typical for Switzerland) and the railway scenery continue to accompany you on your self-guided walking journey for today’s stages as well. Picture the impressive view of the Baltschieder viaduct, the peculiar irrigation pipes and the BLS Südrampe in the background as you walk. Today you have a couple of options to choose from. From Naters you can either continue by foot or by public transport to Blatten. From there, you go up to Belalp by cable car.
4
Day 4. Belalp - Riederalp (11km, 4hrs, +595m/-775m)
You continue hiking towards Riederalp and enjoy the best views of the lower part of the Aletsch Glacier along the way. You will embark upon an adventure today by following your self-guided walking route over the Aletschwald (forest) on a suspension bridge. The views over the astonishing 100-year-old Swiss stone pines of the Aletschwald will reward you for your courage as you cross over. Your destination is Villa Cassel in the outstanding Valais mountains.
5
Day 5. Riederalp – Märjelensee Lake / Fiescheralp (17km, 5,30-6hrs, +710m/-420m)
Today you will wake up in a fantasy world. Everything the eyes touch is a display of natural wonders: to the north, the view of the Aletsch Glacier UNESCO World Heritage Site. To the south, the 4000-meters peaks of Valais. Today’s section of the independent hiking tour descends towards the Märjelensee Lake. Green grass and small tarns contrast with the rock and ice and are to slowly replace them the coming last days.
6
Day 6. Märjelensee / Fiescheralp - Bellwald (14km, 5hrs, +500m/-1130m)
The last section of the self-guided walking tour follows an old Alpine trail down to the Burg (a rock massive peculiarly smoothed by the glaciers). Your end point is the village of Bellwald reachable by the 160-meter-long Aspi-Titter suspension bridge. You will be rewarded with the breathtaking view over the Goms mountain.
