Your independent hiking tour begins with the crossing of Slovenia’s highest mountain pass, Vršič, offering stunning panoramic views of the Julian Alps. You will descend into the lovely Trenta Valley alongside the picturesque Soča River.  Car transfer will take you to Bovec where your next overnight stay will be.

Day 3: Transfer to Trenta - Bovec (21km, 6,30hrs, +240m/-440m)
After a healthy breakfast, a short car transfer will take you to the starting point of today’s section of the self-guided walking route. You will follow the magnificent Soča Trail deep into the Trenta Valley. Deemed to be one of the world’s most beautiful rivers, Soča definitely lives up to its reputation as it takes you to a magical world of wooden bridges and turquoise sparkling waters as you cross the Great Soča Gorge (Velika Korita). Your overnight stay will be again in Bovec.
4
Day 4: Bovec - Dreznica‚ Boka Waterfall (23km, 6,30-7hrs, +480m/-390m)
This section of the independent walking tour is dedicated to waterfalls. First, you will visit the Virje Waterfall where the pure waters of the Gljun River playfully cascade in the form of a 20m waterfall and into a lovely green pool. Next is the Boka Waterfall, the biggest waterfall in Slovenia and the highlight of today's hike. At the end of the day, you will reach the Dreznica village, located high above the Isonzo Valley.  We recommend a visit to the small military museum dedicated to the fighting that took place in the area during WW1. Overnight in a guesthouse in Dreznica village.
5
Day 5: Dreznica - Tolmin (21km, 7-7,30hrs, +750m/-1090m)
On today’s agenda is a walking route combining the cultural heritage sites of the Isonzo Front and the natural beauty of the Western Slovenian Alps, known as the Path of Peace. This remarkable memorial trail is dedicated to the casualties of WW1 and goes past a number of open-air museums and chapels. The highlight of those sites is the graceful Kapela na Planici. Overnight in Tolmin.
6
Day 6: Tolmin (Slovenia) - Tribilj Superiore (Italy) (20km, 6,30hrs, +1260m/-820m)
The highlight of today's hike is the ascent via the Kolovrat Ridge. Along the trail you will admire breathtaking views of distant alpine summits on one side, and serene landscape stretching as far as the Adriatic on the other. The route walking trail takes you into Italy, still along the famous Walk of Peace (Sentiero della Pace / Pot Miru). During WW1, Kolovrat Mountain was the scene of furious battles and there are many impressive monuments along the way, including an open air museum. No less impressive are the various bunkers still standing along the trail as you approach Tribilj Superiore.
7
Day 7: Tribilj Superiore - Cividale del Friuli (24km, 7hrs, +440m/-940m)
The last section of this self-guided hiking route will take you through beautiful chestnut forests and green pastures, passing by WW1 barricades. The charming medieval pilgrimage town of Castelmonte will reveal another aspect of this region’s history as well as stunning views over the Friulian lowlands. The Sanctuary of Castelmonte is definitely a highlight as it is remarkably well-preserved and home to one of the most beautiful churches of the former patriarchy of Aquileia. Your independent walking tour ends in Cividale del Friuli, once one of the most important towns of the Lombard Kingdom, now a peaceful small town close to the Slovenian border with a beautiful historic old town and a fine selection of local wines.
