Day 3: Schattenmühle - Blumberg (25km, 5-6hrs, +475m/-454m)
Today’s walking route follows the Wutach river to Achdorf where it is deflected toward the Rhine. Your destination is the town of Blumberg where you will enter through the "Blumberg gate" - a former riverbed between two mountains. Once you arrive, note the steam locomotives of the infamous Sauschwänzlebahn (pigtail railway), The Wutach Valley Railway, one of the most picturesque and peculiar railways in the world.
Day 4: Blumberg - Tengen (18km, 5-6hrs, +415m/-545m)
Today’s walk is off the beaten track to the so-called blue stones, a rock formation from up to 10 meters high basalt columns, formed during the eruption of the Hegau volcanoes. The overnight is in the town of Tengen.
Day 5: Tengen - Engen (17,1km, 5-6hrs, +385m/-355m)
After a healthy breakfast you follow a trail up one of the higher wooded hills, Duggenhart, passing the Hegaualb bird sanctuaries. You walk through an idyllic forest landscape until you reach Engen where your next overnight will be.
Day 6: Engen - Singen (22km, 5hrs, +285m/-435m)
This stage of the self-guided walking tour takes you to the Hohenhewen peak and ruins from where you can contemplate the vast landscape of the Hegau and on clear days even Lake Constance and the Alps. On the last day of the hiking tour, you can choose between two route options. The longer one follows the official trail past the picturesque lake Steisslinger and the Homberg ruin, from where you can marvel upon spectacular views over the Untersee with the isle Reichenau and the Mettnau Peninsula.
