It is located in the Tyrrhenian Sea just southeast of continental France. The Mare a Mare North self-guided hiking tour gives a wonderful sketch of all the different faces of Corsica. You begin at the very heart of the island, enjoying the charming small villages of the Niolu region along the way to the remarkably beautiful Gulf of Porto. Day 1: Arrival at Corte
Your independent walking tour begins in the city of Corte, in the center of Corsica (within easy reach of appr. 2hrs train ride from Ajaccio). Corte is the fourth largest city on the island, after Ajaccio, Bastia, and Porto-Vecchio with a unique atmosphere to soak in. Don’t miss to explore the citadel, perched high upon a rocky crag, visit the Museu di a Corsica and wandering about the charming little streets in the city center. Overnight in Corte.

Day 2: Scala Santa Regina (13km; 4,30-5hrs; +850m/-500m)
A short transfer takes you to the trailhead of your first day’s hiking route. You begin walking from the heart of the Scala Santa Régina gorge contemplating the views from the cliffs overlooking the Golo river. You follow an old mule path to the breathtaking Calacuccia lake, the highlight of today’s trek. Overnight in Calacuccia.

Day 3: Waterfall and shepherd house of Radule (18km; 6hrs; +900m/-550m)
You dedicate this day to a self-guided walk to the Verghio forest. Your worthwhile beautiful highlight is the Radule waterfall. There are countless natural pools along the way, playfully inviting you for a dip. You join the famous GR20 path through the woods back to your hotel. Overnight in Verghio.

Day 4: The Aitone natural pools (11km; 4hrs; +400m/-850m)
You will be walking to the so-called chestnut capital of Corsica, Evisa through the Col de Verghio pass. The cheerful Aitone stream and its beautiful natural pools will accompany you along the way. Overnight in Evisa.

Day 5: From Evisa to Porto through Ota (15km; 5,30hrs; +650m/-1450m)
In this section of the independent hiking tour, you will explore the heart of the Spelunca Gorge and its outstanding Genoese bridges. The scenery will stun you with its incredible beauty. A great opportunity is t have a well-deserved rest in the Ota village before descending to the amazing turquoise waters of Porto. Overnight in Porto.

Day 6: Scandola Reserve and the Calanches de Piana (11km; 4hrs; +870m/-690m or day for relax)
Today is a rest day in Porto as there is much to explore for every mood and taste. You can choose to spend a lazy day at the beach and enjoy the beautiful view of the peculiar bright red rocks, take a boat trip or rent a bike. We recommend you explore the amazing Calanches de Piana and their bright red rocks, inscribed by France in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1983, and the Scandola nature reserve. Overnight in Porto.

Day 7: Departure day
Services end after breakfast. *Outside July/August, there are no reliable bus services between Porto and Ajaccio on Sundays/bank holidays!

The trip is available to start every day from the beginning of May through to the end of September; Corte (where the first overnight is) is accessible by train and bus from Ajaccio and Bastia - the main airports of Corsica.
