Day 1: Arrival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Welcome to the start of your self-guided walking adventure in the Canary Islands! Upon arrival in Gran Canaria, a comfortable transfer will be waiting to whisk you away to your hotel in the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The capital provides a unique and authentic vibe that differs from the more traditional tourist resorts on the island and is a good base for exploring other parts of Gran Canaria.

Day 2: Las Palmas - Caldera de Bandama - Las Palmas (9km, 3,30-4hrs, +570m/-570m)
Your independent hiking tour in Gran Canaria begins with a short transfer from Las Palmas to the magnificent Pico de Bandama viewpoint (570m), offering a breathtaking panoramic view across the entire northeast of the island. You will be standing on the rim of the impressive Caldera de Bandama, a vast crater created by a massive eruption about 4,000 years ago. This is a circular walking route that first descends into the fertile bottom of the crater, where you will see vineyards thriving in the rich volcanic soil. After exploring the caldera floor and admiring the imposing volcanic walls, the trail will guide you around the entire rim back to the summit. Keep an eye out for the unique wineries in the surrounding Monte Lentiscal area, which take full advantage of this unique microclimate and soil to produce exceptional local wines. A brilliant introduction to the island's geological drama and history! Return to Las Palmas.

Day 3: Las Palmas - San Bartolomé de Tirajana - Pico de Las Nieves - Riscos de Tirajana - Tejeda (11km, 4,30-5hrs, +1055m/-90m)
Today's mission is to conquer the roof of the island. We start in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, nestled in a sun-drenched southern ravine, and begin the determined climb to Pico de Las Nieves, Gran Canaria's highest point at 1950m. You will be following an old Camino Real, initially winding through groves of almond and olive trees before transitioning to the cooler, scented pine forests. The ascent is tough but the payoff is immense: the trail zigzags past the impressive Riscos de Tirajana, and the famed Ventana del Nublo (Window of Nublo) will be to your left. Keep looking west - on a clear day, the spectacular silhouette of Pico del Teide on Tenerife dominates the horizon (in fact, the highest summit of Spain too). These views are your constant companion all the way to the summit. Enjoy the bragging rights! Transportation to Tejeda, your next overnight base.
4
Day 4: Tejeda - Caldera de Tejeda - Tejeda (12km, 4-4,30hrs, +690m/-660m)
Today hiking route begins in the pastoral village of Fontanales and heads straight for Tejeda, slicing across fertile pastures and beautiful pine forests. This is prime cheese country - keep an eye out for the cows whose milk makes those famously tasty Gran Canaria cheeses! The village of Tejeda itself sits right in the geographical center of the island, nestled within the steep peaks of an ancient volcanic caldera. Your path is set to take you to the very top of these surrounding peaks, completing a dramatic semi-circle around the caldera's perimeter. From this stunning vantage point, you will gaze down upon Gran Canaria's most iconic monoliths: the majestic Roque Bentayga and the colossal Roque Nublo. Prepare for views that make your camera work for its living.
5
Day 5: Tejeda - Fortress of Tirajana - Santa Lucía de Tirajana - Tejeda (11km, 4-4,30hrs, +370m/-370m)
Today you will take a historical leap into the past with the Fortress of Tirajana walk. This isn't just a hike; it's a journey to understand the heroic resistance of the original Canarian inhabitants. The walking route runs right along the famous fortress where the indigenous Guanches made their final, fierce stand against the advancing Spanish forces. As you traverse this historical route, which winds through sunny southern gorges, you will pass picturesque hamlets like El Sitio de Abajo and El Sitio de Arriba before reaching Santa Lucía de Tirajana. Finish your trek here - a town now renowned for something far sweeter than conquest: its exquisite local honey and high-quality olive oil. Transportation back to Tejeda.
6
Day 6: Tejeda - The Water Route to Agaete - Agaete (16km, 5,30hrs, +270m/-1260m)
Your journey today highlights the ingenuity of Gran Canaria's water system. Continue your self-guided walking tour from the small northwestern village of El Junquillo. Your path climbs gently to the Mirador de La Crucita viewpoint, offering expansive views. From there, you will follow the course of the Barranco de La Coruña ravine, tracing the 'water route' past three key reservoirs: the Presa de las Hoyas, Presa de Lugarejos, and Presa de Los Perez. These vital water bodies sustain the lush, exotic plantations across the northwest. The hiking route then enters the impressive Barranco de Agaete, beginning a permanent, satisfying descent that culminates at the beautiful colonial-style mansion, the Hacienda de Las Longueras. It's a day of natural beauty and human history, powered by water. Overnight in Agaete.
7
Day 7: Agaete - Azuaje Gorge - Agaete (10km, 4hrs, +580m/-580m)
Your final walk on Gran Canaria takes you to one of the island's lushest, greenest sanctuaries: the Azuaje Gorge. Starting in Firgas, a town famous for its mineral water springs, the hiking trail immediately plunges into the protected Azuaje nature reserve. You will find yourself surrounded by a dense, rich environment populated by thick groves of reeds and willows, along with ferns, laurel trees, and unique endemic plants. This is a circular walk: you will ascend the ravine on one side and descend on the other, where the gorge transforms into the Barranco de la Virgen. Keep an eye out for the vibrant, terraced groves dedicated to orange and lemon trees before your path concludes, crossing the beautiful Paseo de Gran Canaria and bringing you right back to the refreshing air of Firgas. Return to Agaete for your last overnight.

By relying solely on the trusted, third-party platform of Google, we offer a guarantee that your feedback is genuine and completely unbiased.
