This tour is on hold after the Covid-19 pandemic for logistical reasons (some of the key inns closed for good and public transportation (incl. taxis) in the area is not reliable or missing at all (most people arrive with own car for this reason). This makes the creation of an all-in package challenging and for the time being we have not found an acceptable solution. The High Coast (Höga Kusten) is one of the best hiking locations in Sweden. It is also inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list as a place of great importance for the study of the processes of formation of the high land as the covering glaciers melt. This self-guided hiking tour follows the High Coast Trail (Höga Kusten leden) through the unique natural landscape from Hornöberget in the south to Örnsköldsvik in the north. You will walk through fragrant dark green forests, stunningly beautiful rocky coasts, serene creeks, lush meadows, and intact natural reserves. You will walk with nothing but a day pack as your luggage transportation as well as your lunch pack preparation are taken care of.

Self-guided and inn to inn walking tours along the High Coast Trail and Skuleskogen, Sweden
1
Day 1. Arrival in Härnösand
Take the time to explore Härnösand after check-in. The town is home to the biggest open-air museum in Sweden - Murberget. Spend some time at the beautiful marina where you can try some traditional meals in a local restaurant.

Day 2. Hornöberget - Lövvik (10km, 3hrs, +360/-380m)
After a healthy breakfast, an organized transfer will take you to the starting point of today’s section of the self-guided hiking tour - Hornöberget. Before you start walking, you will have a short introduction with a representative and receive your first packed lunch. You will follow the old coastal road to Nyadal for this part of the trail. Reach the Lövviksbron bridge over Svartnorasundet and follow your trail into the woods. Arrive in Lövvik where your next overnight will be. You have the option to climb Strandberget and enjoy the breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape, the mountains, and the sea.

Day 3. Lövvik - Lidebro - Östanö (18km, 4,30-5hrs, +540m/-560m)
Enjoy a wonderful breakfast on the porch of your accommodation energizing you for the day to come. Follow the trail for about 2 kilometers and take a small detour hiking up the Valkallen mountain. Enjoy the breathtaking views from the mountain top over the beautiful landscape, the impressive Ångermanälven bridge and the Storön natural reserve. Return to the High Coast trail reaching the ocean at Halsviken. The trail follows the beautiful coastline until Grönviksfjärden where you follow another road inland towards Fjärdbotten. The scenery changes as you trail takeс you through swamps and thick woods to Tybettjärnen. Ascend over Kotrångberget and Jon-Nilsberget as you pass more woods and rocks on your way to Lidnipan where you leave this path for a short detour to Nipstuganfor a well-deserved rest with wonderful views over the High Coast. Descent to Lidebro and finally reach your accommodation in Östanö.

Day 4. Östanö – Häggvik and Mannaminne (15km, 4hrs, +340/-315m)
A short transfer will take you to Eden, just north of Lidebro. Today’s independent walking route will take you on a journey through beaches, beautiful coves, and enchanting capes. The trail leaves the coastline and continues through forests and agricultural lands. In Ånge you will change the forest trail for a graveled road towards the village of Häggvik. Enjoy the wonderful views over the Gaviksfjärden and Vågfjärden lakes along the way. Your final destination in Mannaminne at Häggvik is quite unique. It is something between an art gallery and a museum. A marvelous accomplishment of the extravagant Anders and Barbro Åberg.Have a walk around and explore this peculiar place before dinner.

Day 5. Mannaminne – Ullånger and bus (or transfer) to Docksta or Skuleskogen (17km, 5hrs, +470m/-490m)
Today’s self-guided walking route will take you further north. You will walk along Vågfjärden towards Nordingrå where you will rejoin the original route of The High Coast Trail. Take a small detour after Köringsberget for some breathtaking views over Vågfjärden. The trail will take you through a diverse landscape of flat rocks, agricultural lands, and dense forests. Reach Ullånger where you will pick up your luggage and be taken to the inn at Skuleskogen or the an accommodation in Docksta (subject to availability) via public bus or organized transfer.

Day 6. Skuleskogen (5-15km)
The last day of your independent walking tour is dedicated to the legendary Skuleskogen. There are a number of hiking options available in the area so you can choose depending on your preferences. One of them is a hike to the incredible Slåttdalsskrevan which will leave you speechless. Regardless of what you choose, you will return to your accommodation in the afternoon with great memories and a sense of accomplishment.
(P.S. In case you are accommodated in Docksta on Day 5, a private transfer will be provided to the trail head on Day 6)

Day 7. Departure day
Depending on your travel plans, you might have time for one last hike before you leave. We have foreseen a packed lunch for this day as well. If it’s time for you to bid Skuleskogen farewell, your host will transfer you to Docksta (unless you are already accommodated in Docksta) where you can take a bus and continue your travels.
