Day 1: Arrival in Bernried on Lake Starnberg
Bernried on Lake Starnberg, with its monastery and onion dome, carefully restored country houses and old lime and oak trees, is an ancient Bavarian town. *Easiest arrival via Munich Airport (appr. 40min train ride between Munich and Bernried).

Day 2: From Bernried to Dießen on Lake Ammer (21km, 5-6hrs, +250m/-150m)
The first day of the independent walking route takes you through the natural reserve surrounding Lake Starnberg passing the Ilka cave with beautiful viewpoints towards the lake. You reach the Deixfurter pond and continue through charming Bavarian on your way to the Andechs monastery with its own brewery. From there you take a short bus ride to the village of Herrsching am Ammersee and a short boat ride to Dießen am Ammersee where your overnight will be.

Day 3: From Dießen on Lake Ammer to Wessobrunn/Paterzell (13km, 4-5hrs, +300m/-150m)
Today you leave Dießen following a scenic path through lush meadows into the idyllic Stiller forest. Passing some hilltops with fascinating views, you reach the Wessobrunn monastery, home of the well-known ‚grey duke’ Romanesque bell tower. In the distance, you can admire the proud Zugspitze summit.

Day 4: From Wessobrunn/Paterzell to Peiting (18km, 5-6hrs, +500m/-450m)
This section of the independent hiking tour is dedicated to the exploration of the Bavarian Alpine foothills with their cozy little villages and the remote moor areas. A short but steep ascent takes you to the Hohen Peissenberg mountain, a wonderful site with a weather station and marvelous panoramic views over the Alps from the Großvenediger all the way into the Allgäu region. Descend from the Hohen Peissenberg and continue walking through forests and across fields all the way to Peiting where your next overnight will be.

Day 5: From Peiting to Wildsteig/Bad Bayersoien (14km, 4hrs, +400m/-250m)
After a healthy breakfast, you head to the pristine and romantic Ammer ravine. Cross the river over the numerous footbridges and follow the trail to Rottenbuch with its stunningly beautiful ornate monastery church. Your overnight is in Wildsteig/Bad Bayersoien, where you arrive across hills and meadows with glorious views onto the Alpine mountain range.

Day 6: From Wildsteig/Bad Bayersoien to Buching (11km, 4hrs, +150m/-250m)
You bid Wildsteig farewell and follow the self-guided walking route through idyllic moor regions to Wieskirche (Church in the Meadow), listed as one of Germany’s sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The hiking trail takes you to pass green hilltops, forests and colorful meadows with distant views onto the Allgäu Alps and the King-Ludwig-country on Lake Forggensee. Your overnight is in Buching (the last stage to it you pass by bus).

Day 7: From Buching to Füssen/surroundings (17km, 4,30hrs, +300m/-300m)
The last day of the walking tour is dedicated to one of the most iconic Bavarian castles - Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau on Lake Schwansee. Passing through the Kalvarienberg, you enter the historic market town of Füssen where you can celebrate with a fantastic Bavarian meal.

Organized transfer from Füssen to Bernried available, cost EUR 105 per person (min 2 persons). Booking in advance required.

Tips
The tour is available for arrivals on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday between the beginning of April and mid-October! Arrival in Munich and then a 45 mins train journey to Bernried on Lake Starnberg. Return train journey from Füssen to Bernried, duration approx. 3 hours (2x change trains). Option for transfer from Füssen to Bernried available. Booking in advance required. You walk on walking paths or forest trails as well as on asphalted paths. For tours through the Alpine foothills with a walking time of 4 to max. 6 hours, stamina and a good basic fitness level is required.
