The Lycian Way is one of the most famous long-distance self-guided walking routes in the world. It is a 500 km-long trail between Fethiye and Antalya on the south coast of Turkey. It takes place on the Teke Peninsula which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Mediterranean coastlines in the world. What is more, this independent hiking route is a wonderful combination of cultural sites (the immense Lycian heritage you will encounter) and breathtaking nature making it a perfectly balanced experience for all preferences.

1
Day 1. Arrival day
Our representative will meet you at the Dalaman Airport and take you to the town of Kayakoy where your first overnight will be.

Day 2. Kayakoy to Oludeniz (7km, 3hrs, +300m/-470m)
Begin your independent walking tour with a walk in the abandoned Greek village of Kayakoy. Leaving the ghost-town, the trail follows an old mule track down to one of the most iconic lagoons in Turkey, Oludeniz. The views along the way down to the coastline are incredible. Take a dip in the sea and enjoy some time on the beach. Whenever you are ready, take the public bus back to Kayakoy.

Day 3. Ovacik to Faralya (14km, 5-5,30hrs, +800m/-850m)
After breakfast, you bid Kayakoy farewell and head to the starting point of the western part of the Lycian Way. A private transfer will take you to the trailhead. Follow the self-guided hiking route around the Babadag mountain and enjoy breathtaking views over the Oludeniz lagoon and the St Nicholas Island. You won’t help but notice the great number of Paragliders circling above your head. Walk past the village of Kozagac which was destroyed by an earthquake back in 1953 and gradually descend to the village of Faralya where your next overnight will be. It has a peculiar and beautiful location – perched on the cliffs of the Butterfly Valley. Dinner and a lunch pack for the next day are included.

Day 4. Faralya to Kabak (7,5km, 3,30hrs, +500m/-650m)
Today’s section of the independent walking tour follows a particularly picturesque coastal route. You will walk along terraces with breathtaking views and have the opportunity to make a short stop for a swim. Your walk finishes with an ascent to the village of Kabak where your next overnight will be. You can relax in the hotel pool or visit the Kabak beach before dinner. Dinner and a lunch pack for the next day are provided by the accommodation.

Day 5. Kabak to Gey (16km, 7hrs, +1300m/-900m)
After breakfast, you follow the self-guided hiking trail past the valley of Kabak and up to the Alinca watershed. Enjoy the breathtaking views over the seven capes visible all visible from the heights. The surrounding scenery becomes even more stunning as you descend towards the Ottoman Cistern near the Bogazici village. From there, you continue up towards the beautiful orderly terraced fields of Gey. Dinner and a lunch pack for the next day are included with your accommodation.

Day 6. Gey to Faralya (9km + sightseeing, 4,30hrs, +380m/-410m)
Today you follow your independent walking route up the stony terraces and trace the old path from Gey to Sidyma. The path descends into a valley and reaches the Byzantine fortifications of the ancient city revealing great views of the Lycian Highlands. Finally, you will arrive in the village of Sidyma where you will have the opportunity to visit the ancient city. An organized transfer will take you to Patara where your accommodation is located. Dinner is not included this time, you can explore the numerous options in the village and try some local delicacies.

Day 7. Delikkemer to Patara (8km + 2km sightseeing, 4hrs, +350m/-360)
A short transfer after breakfast will take you to Delikkemer, a true masterpiece of ancient Roman Engineering. Follow the Aqueduct line to the Roman Capital of the Lycian Province and marvel upon the well-preserved ancient ruins. You will have the opportunity to explore this magnificent harbor city and its bathhouses, parliament building, temples and theatre. Later, follow the sand dunes and have a walk along the impressive 16-kilometer stretch of intact sandy beach also known as Patara.

Day 8. Departure (or extra night)
Based on your departure flight schedule, a private organized transfer will take you to the Dalaman airport.

Tips
Daily departures all year round (Jan/Dec). Best travel period: April/May and September/October (summers are quite hot; in winter months many local businesses are closed and weather is quite unstable (though never too cold); The walking is easy/moderate and primarily over undulating terrain, following dirt tracks, trails and backroads, odd beach and even stream crossings.
