Mala Fatra is a mountain range located in the westernmost part of Slovakia. The self-guided walking tour in the National Park of Mala Fatra is a wonderful combination of gorges, jagged rocky peaks, and tempting ridge trails. Among the most famous hiking destinations in the park are the Sutovsky waterfall, Horne Diery, and Dolne Diery as well as the summits Maly Rozsutec, Velky Rozsutec or Velky Fatransky Krivan. All of them are easily accessible from the nearby villages. This wonderful independent hiking tour will take you to the most incredible places in the park as well as local cultural heritage sites – castles and traditional villages.

Independent hiking tour in Mala Fatra Mountains, Slovakia
1
Day 1. Arrival to Slovakia
Our representative will pick you up from the Martin (Vrutky train station) and transfer you to Bystricka where your accommodation is located. A tour introduction meeting will be held to discuss all the available route options and to answer any questions.

Day 2. Bystricka - Lazky - Martinske hole (8km, 4hrs, +800m/-50m)
Your independent walking tour begins in the western parts of Mala Fatra, called Lucanska Fatra. The overnight is in Martinske hole.

Day 3. Martinske hole - Mincol – Strecno (14km, 4-5hrs, +250m/-850m)
Continue exploring the Lucianska Mala Fatra Mountains. Follow this wonderful section of the self-guided hiking route the main ridge and enjoy the breathtaking panoramas over the Krivanska Mala Fatra and its highest peak Velky Fatransky Krivan. Gradually descend to Strecno where your next overnight will be.

Day 4. Strecno - Old castle - Strecno - Terchova (7km, 3hrs, +110m/-110m)
After a healthy breakfast, visit the Strecno castle, dramatically located on a limestone cliff above the Vah River. It served as a watchtower back in the 14th century. Follow the walking trail east towards Krivanska Mala Fatra and pass the ruins of the Old castle on the other side of the river. An organized transfer will take you to Terchova village in the afternoon.

Day 5. Terchova - Dolne Diery - Velky Rozsutec - Vratna – Stefanova (13km, 4-5hrs, +950m/-800m)
The traditional Terchova village is the starting point for many walking trails in this part of the Mala Fatra Mountains. Today’s section of the self-guided hiking route takes you through the wonderful gorges of Dolne Diery and Horne Diery and the stunning Mala Fatra ridge with the imposing Velky Rozsutec peak. The overnight is in Terchova

Day 6. Terchova - Vratna - Snilovske saddle - Velky Krivan and back (7km, 6hrs, +950m/-950m)
We have foreseen an independent hike abundant in breathtaking views for your last day. Attempt to conquer the highest peak of Mala Fatra Mountains, the Velky Krivan peak (1709m a.s.l.). The starting point of the ascend is easily accessible via cable car to the Snilovske saddle (unless you wish to hike from the foothills of the mountains; otherwise the uphill/downhill walk is only +350m/-350m). From there the hike to the top is relatively easy.

Day 7. Departure day
After breakfast, you will bee transferred to the Zilina bus or railway station.
