Join us on a self-guided adventure blending an incredible sample of the cultural and natural heritage of Germany. Wonderful landscape views will change before your eyes as you walking from charming little wineries in the border triangle through the beautiful Moselle and Saar river scenery along the old Roman roads and all the way to Trier. The lively city is the home of 9 UNESCO World Heritage Sites which deserve your attention. The second part of the route follows the Eifel Trail through untamed and romantic nature and crossing a marvelous suspension bridge into the idyllic Kyll valley.

Day 1: Arrival in Perl
You begin your independent walking tour from the little wine-growing Perl in the Saarland. The river Mosel acts as a natural border between Perl (Germany) and Schengen (Luxemburg). *Easiest arrival via Frankfurt (appr. 4hrs train ride with 2 changes in Koblenz and trier).

Day 2: Perl – Palzem (22km (option for 17km), 5-6hrs, +400m/-450m)
The first day of the self-guided walking tour will give you a great overview of the border triangle between Germany, Luxembourg, and France. You will spend the day walking through the captivating wine region around Palatinate and Palzem contemplating marvelous views of quiet forests, vast fields and beautiful vineyards. The overnight is in Palzem where we encourage you to try a glass of the world-famous Elbling wine.

Day 3: Palzem – Nittel (16km, 4,30hrs, +300m/-350m)
After a healthy breakfast, you can explore the peculiar local double-towered Helfant cathedral before you continue along the planned route. You follow the scenic paths to a short but steep ascent along the green meadows and forests. Enjoy some spectacular views of the river Mosel before you reach the next wine district - Nittel.

Day 4: Nittel – Trier (18km, 5-5,30hrs, +450m/-450m)
Today you explore the nature protection area “Nitteler Felsen”, diverse in animal and plant species, as you enjoy dramatic panoramic views of the river Mosel and its unique limestone cliffs. The walk ends in Wasserliesch. From there you continue by train to the Moselle metropolis Trier, where you spend the next 3 nights.

Day 5: Circular walk Trier (10km, 2-3hrs, +150m/-150m)
Take the time to explore the abundant cultural heritage of Trier. Do some sightseeing and have a short walking tour. We recommend a walk along the Traumsteig up to the Petrisberg for a breathtaking view of Trier and the Mosel valley. In the afternoon, take a panoramic ship ride on the river Mosel.

Day 6: Circular walk Eifel Trail (19km, 5hrs, +550m/-500m)
On the last day of the independent hiking tour, you will shift from the Moselsteig to the Eifelsteig trail for a scenic walk through the Butzerbach valley. Enjoy some impressive natural heritage sites such as the Genoveva and Klausen caves and the beautiful views over the Kyll river meanders and the impressive Burg Ramstein.

Tips
Daily arrivals from the beginning of April till the beginning of October. The routes run along good footpaths and through wonderful nature. The longer stages can be shortened with public transport.
