After a healthy breakfast, you start your independent hiking tour with an ascent up the mountain. You will descend following a different trail.

Day 3. Walk to Su Gologone via Pedra Mugrones and Punta Cusidore (14-16km, 5-7hrs, +395-640m/-990-1250m)
Today’s self-guided hiking route takes you through the enchanting Holm oak woods covering the foothills and lower slopes of the Supramonte and its 800m high limestone rocks. Contemplate the amazing views of the Oliena and Guthiddai valleys. You can opt to climb the steep stony slope of the Scala di Sovana to the Punta Cusidore if you feel like challenging yourself today (no via Ferrata). When you reach the Supramonte plateau you can see the entrance of the Grotta Orgoi. If you feel energized you can extend your walk with another 2km to the Su Gologone canyon. It is a narrow canyon, 108 deep and the primary water source of Sardinia.

Day 4. From Rio Flumineddu to Tiscali via ovili huts and return via Scala de Surtana (11km, 5hrs, +700m/-700m)
You begin with a 15-minute transfer to Rio Flumineddu where the starting point of today’s hiking route awaits. You follow the route along the Scala de Surtana valley reaching two curious ovili huts recently restored. You descend to the valley and then climb up Monte Tiscali. You can have a rest visiting the cave preserving the remains of a prehistoric Nuraghe village along the way. You continue through the woods of the Surtana gorge and descend to the river Flumineddu where you will be picked up and taken to your hotel.

Today your self-guided walking route takes you into Italy’s deepest gorge. The Gola di Gorropu surrounds you with impressive 350 meter-high vertical white walls. A short transfer in the morning and in the afternoon takes you to the starting point of the trail and back. Alternatively, you can walk to Silana this day. The transfer to the starting point is 35 minutes and offers some great views of Scala de Surtana and Gola di Gorropu. The hiking trail you will then follow takes you to pass the western slopes of the ‘Supramonte de Dorgali‘. You then descend through the screed of Scala d' Orvene.

Day 6. From Dorgali to Cala Gonone via Punta Bardia and Monte Irveri (11km, 4-5hrs, +486m/-958m)

Tips
Daily departures between the beginning of April and the end of October, excl. August, when the tour is not offered due to summer heat! N.B. If clients arrive or leave on Sundays they have to book private transfers to and from the airports or have an extra night in Alghero, Olbia or Cagliari (depending on where they flight in and out).
The walks are poorly to moderately marked, often on uneven footpaths, small tracks amongst shrubs and, on a rare occasion, on small gravel roads. Some routes (such as Monte Tiscali) are a bit demanding, with some parts of (easy) climbing being a desolate limestone area, with no springs or villages along the way. Take plenty of water each day as there are no natural springs on the routes. You can fly in to Cagliari, Olbia or Alghero airport, served by several low cost carriers). Travel time from Cagliari and Alghero airports to the first hotel is approximately 3-4 hours and from Olbia approximately 2 hours. From Oliena bus stop, you are transferred by car to the hotel.
Notes: On arrival: We suggest arriving in Sardinia before 13:00 hrs. in the afternoon because some time is needed to catch the bus to Oliena. However, if your flight lands in Sardinia after 16:00 hrs. or on a national holiday, you must either book a private transfer to the first accommodation in Oliena or spend your first night in your city of arrival. In this case, if you want to make the walks of Day 1, as mentioned in the programme, you must take a very early bus on the morning of Day 2 to Oliena. Otherwise, you may arrive the day before and book an extra night at the beginning of the trip. On departure: If you have a late morning/afternoon flight any day from Monday to Saturday and do not want to spend an extra night in Cala Gonone, you must book a private transfer with Gisellu. Minibus from Cala Gonone to Nuoro, the closest nearby city. From Nuoro, there are ample connections to get to your departure airport on time. If your return trip is on a Sunday or a national holiday, the private transfer must be from Cala Gonone all the way to Cagliari, as there are no buses that leave from Cala Gonone on Sundays or on holidays. If you fly out on a Sunday, you can sleep in Cagliari on Saturday night, instead of Cala Gonone. Otherwise, you must book a private transfer with Gisellu bus to the Cagliari airport. Private transfers (price for a group of up to 4 pax): Cagliari airport-Oliena: 320 Euro; Cala Gonone-Cagliari airport: 320 Euro; Cala Gonone-Olbia airport: 195 Euro; Olbia airport-Oliena: 215 Euro;
Accommodation
Day 1 & 2 - Oliena; Day 3, 4 & 5 - Dorgali; Day 6 & 7 - Cala Gonone; Breakfast and dinner included, except in Cala Gonone (where dinner is not included). 2-3* hotels with en-suite rooms. The hotels in Oliena and Dorgali are cozy, friendly and nestled in peaceful, remote locations with superb views of the mountains and easy access to the walks. Throughout the trip you will have plenty of opportunities to savor both the excellent local food as well as the renowned Cannonau wine, the deepest shade of red in Italy.
