The region of Ausseeland has managed to preserve its traditional way of life due to its remote location. Join us on this independent walking trip in a hidden jewel of exceptional natural beauty. The superb peaks of the Salzkammergut Alps surround Ausseerland make it accessible only through mountain passes. Among the sites, you will visit is ‘Tauplitz’, the highest lake plateau in Middle Europe. This is truly one wonderful alpine self-guided hiking route with a great number of viewpoints of amazing panoramas of peaks and lakes.

Day 1. Individual journey to Bad Goisern

Day 2: From Bad Goisern to Altaussee (18km, 5hrs, +500m/-760m)
After breakfast, a short transfer will take you to Predigstuhl which will be your starting point for the walking tour. You will walk through alpine pastures ringed by amazing summits deeply into the Ausseerland area. Today’s hike offers great opportunities to have a nice rest at an unbelievable place. The alpine pasture Hütteneckalm invites you to sit back and enjoy the impressive panorama of the Hallstatt Dachstein UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape. You will spend the night at the charming village of Altaussee and sink in the atmosphere the numerous painters create.

Day 3. From Altaussee to Gößl/Grundlsee (17km, 5hrs, +400m/-450m)
Today you will walk alongside lake Altaussee and enjoy the view towards the Loser mountain. Your next stop will be Gößl by lake Grundlsee which will be your reward after crossing the Tressen saddle. You will have the option to visit lake Toplitzsee where legend has it, there is treasure still hidden in its waters. Another fun option for the afternoon is renting a wooden traditional boat.

Day 4. From Gößl/Grundlsee to Tauplitzalm (13km, 5hr, +1,050m/-150m)
Today’s independent hiking route will take you out of the valley to Ödernalm. Your goal is to reach Tauplitzalm, which is located on a high plateau. Along the way you will walk along a stream to an alluvial area, ascent over the Törl, and enjoy a charming lake.

Day 5. Circular walk from the Tauplitzalm (2-4hrs)
The Tauplitzalm is a place with a wide variety of walking trails. The so-called ‘Six-lake walk’ will take you on a journey through amazing viewpoints and hidden mountain ponds. Another option you will have is to climb one of the many peaks of the Tote Gebirge mountain range. The area is famous for its large variety of fauna and flora ranging from the snow roses to gentian to alpine rose flowers (and the elusive chamois among them).

Day 6. From Tauplitzalm to Bad Goisern (12km, 3-5hrs, +100m/-900m)
On your last day of this self-guided walking tour, you walk past the lake Steirersee to the lake Schwarzensee. Enjoy the narcissus fields on your way down to Tauplitz. From there, you are to go back to Bad Goisern by train.

Tips
The trek is available for arrivals on Saturday from the beginning of June to mid-September. To get to the starting point take a train to Salzburg and then a bus to Bad Ischl where you should change to bus/train to Bad Goisern (duration approx. 2 hrs). Technically easy tour however requiring surefootedness in some places. You mainly walk on well maintained alpine or walking trails. Tours up to 5 hours can be managed with a good basic fitness level. The daily walking times can be shortened from time to time. A fantastic tour for lovers of altitude-panorama paths with stunning views onto numerous summits and lakes.
Accommodation
Pretty 3*** hotels and country hotels incl. breakfast (2 dinners included in Tauplitzalm). Supplement for dinner for the rest 4 nights is extra 100 Euro per person.
