The mountains of Bavaria and Tyrol are some of the most spectacular scenery of the Alps. Gorges and deeply cut valleys lead up to alpine pastures and intimidating summits of Wetterstein- and Karwendel massif. During this trekking tour you can expect stunning views, surrounded by ragged peaks. There is an almost unbelievable number of summits, high altitude paths and rustic alpine cabins. You cross National Park Karwendel up to the Northern Chain, where you finally glide down into the valley of Innsbruck by cable car.

Day 1: Arrival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Day 2: Round trip high altitude path Höllentalklamm, Hell valley gorge (approx. 5 hours | 12 km | + 1.090 m, - 180 m)
Walk deep into Höllentalklamm to alpine pasture Höllentalangeralm at the foot of Zugspitze. Take the high altitude path above the gorge to Hupfleitenjoch and cross alpine pastures to Kreuzeck. Overnight stay in Garmisch, take the cable car down.
Day 3: From Garmisch to Schachenhaus, ‘Wetterstein massif’ (approx. 4,5 hours | 12 km | + 1.170 m, - 30 m)
The day starts with a walk through a gorge on the foot of Wetterstein. A hiking trail leads steeply uphill onto Königsweg to Schachen castle, once built by King Louis II. Rather unpresumptuous on the outside the inside is very glamorous. Overnight stay in comfortable Schachenhaus.
Day 4: From Schachenhaus to Scharnitz, ‘Sunrise’ (approx. 7,5 hours | 20 km | + 900 m, - 1.800 m)
The climb up to the pass and walk to the border cabin has everything that makes mountain hiking so attractive. Afterward down into Leutasch valley and on to Scharnitz. In the beginning, you cross rocky landscape, then through a little valley and at the end of the day, another pass awaits. A possibility of a shortcut by bus.
Day 5: From Scharnitz to Halleranger Alm, ‘Isar spring’ (approx. 2,5 to 5 hours | 5 km | + 550 m, - 0 m)
Transfer deep into Karwendel valley. Comfortable start with a walk up to Halleranger alpine pasture which takes about 2 hrs. Take it easy or hike up to Überschalljoch. The next two nights are spent on Halleranger Alm.
Day 6: Day off or summit tour Karwendel massif (approx. 2 to 3 hours | 5 km | + 500 m, - 500 m)
Today you have a choice: enjoy a relaxing day of rest at the alpine cabin or take a couple of interesting summit tours into the stunning Karwendel massif. According to your mood you can choose between one of our hiking suggestions or relax.
Day 7: From Halleranger Alm to Innsbruck, ‘Karwendel Crossing’ (approx. 6 hours | 13 km | + 1000 m, - 500 m)
A marvellous high-altitude path crosses several ridges (passes) to well-known Northern Chain. A couple of sections require surefootedness and stamina. Afterwards you head on to the summit station of Hafelekar and glide majestically downhill to Innsbruck.

The trek is available for Friday & Sunday arrivals only between the mid-June and mid-September. To get to the starting point take train to Garmisch Partenkirchen from where you will have a few walking minutes or a short bus ride to the starting hotel. Return from Innsbruck to Garmisch by train, duration approx 1.5 hrs. Demanding trekking tour with walking stages from 4,30 to 7 hours. Partly in high alpine territory therefore experience, sure footedness and a good head for heights is required. Some shortcuts are available.
